3 Easy-Peasy Summer Car Care Tips!

Summer’s heat, dust, and stop-and-go traffic, will take their toll on your vehicle. Add the effects of last winter, and you could be poised for a breakdown.

But don’t worry, there are some simple things you can do to save time, money, and the hassle of fixing problems down the road.

Have Your Air Conditioning Checked

A marginally operating system will fail in hot weather. Have the system examined by a qualified technician. Newer models have cabin air filters that clean the air entering the heating and air conditioning system. Check your owner’s manual for location and replacement intervals.

Thayer Honda is performing FREE air conditioning checks this month on all makes and models! Click HERE to schedule your appointment.

Cooling System Flush

The greatest cause of summer breakdowns is overheating. The cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled about every 24 months. The level, condition, and concentration of the coolant should be checked periodically. (A 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water is usually recommended.) DIYers, never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled! The tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps, and hoses should always be checked by a pro.

Thayer Toyota & Chevy Service Departments can flush (and check) all makes and models for $79.95 (excludes diesels). Click HERE to schedule your appointment.

Change Your Oil

Change your oil and oil filter (as specified by the manufacturer). Consider changing it more often if you make frequent short jaunts, extended trips with lots of luggage, or tow a trailer.

Thayer Ford & Nissan Service Departments can have you in and out for an oil change. 28 minutes or less for $28.95! Click HERE to schedule your appointment.

Preventative car care will save you time, money, and hassle down the road. BRING ON THE SUNSHINE!

Changing your oils a simple tip, but a really good one. I know this because I’ve had to deal with the consequences of not changing your oil and I can promise that it’s not fun. It was as really expensive lesson that I learned when I had to replace my engine, but one that I’ll never forget. Thanks for posting this awesome information!

Thank you for the help. I recently waited longer than I should have to change my oil, and I realized that I have not taken car maintenance seriously enough. I know that changing the oil is essential, as you mentioned. How often would it be wise to change it out?

I just recently got my first car and I want to keep it in a good condition. So, I liked that you talked about how you should change your oil before the summer time. It might also be a good idea for me to get your radiator looked at as well.

These are great tips, thanks for sharing this up here. Winter car care tips are also similar to this, except that you need to ensure your heating systems are in check and your winter tires are installed before time.

Use new oil to coat the oil filter gasket before spinning it on.
